Mentor Blogs

In the age of media, it's easy to find blogs, however, it can be harder to find ones that are so genuinely good that they are both inspirational and educational. Despite this fact, I was able to find three that fit my personal taste and style, while still teaching me something about blogging.

Going Zero Waste - Kathryn Kellog

Going Zero Waste, composed by Kathryn Kellog, is the perfect compromise between simplistic and detail-oriented, in my opinion. Her post style keeps the reader focused on the content by making pictures the main focus with the ability to click them in order to be taken to a post. She went the extra mile by adding visuals that accentuate the blog as a whole when hovering over topic pages and posts in general. Her posts are also easy to read and include numerous visuals that keep readers engaged and interested. One of my favorite pages was her “Zero Waste for Beginners”. Here she details the first steps in going zero waste and details specific posts to start with, which helps introduce people to her blog.

Hand Luggage Only - Yaga and Lloyd

Yaya and Lloyd’s blog, Hand Luggage Only, is one of my favorites due to the fact that they are able to keep such a simple design while still incorporating numerous photographs. The coordination of the colors in the photos is impressive and brings the entire blog together from my perspective. Having photographs as segues into the posts keeps the focus on the beauty of the places they are writing about and keeps readers interested, in my opinion. I really enjoyed the Instagram slider found on the Home page. It manages to focus on the photography aspect of the blog while introducing another platform, in which one can find more content.

Profiles in Pride

The group run blog, Profiles in Pride, is the perfect minimalistic blog. It’s easy on the eyes and makes the posts the focus of the blog. The photos that accompany the posts give readers a peek into what the post will cover, and the descriptive titles paint an even clearer picture. The categories section displayed on all pages of the blog is a really helpful tool that helps readers find articles they may be interested in much quicker. Overall, Profiles in Pride may be simple, but it checks all of the boxes.
